AHEPA Chapter 24

Charitable & Educational Corporation

Corporation’s Mission

Founded in 1937, The Corporation’s mission is to assist financially needy, poor and indigent persons of Greek extraction in securing an education; to assist financially the sick and infirm and aged; to teach the principles of American government to persons of Greek extraction; to promote and encourage loyalty to the United States of America; allegiance to its flag; support its Constitution; obedience to its laws and reverence for its history and traditions; to own, lease, mortgage and sell real estate for the purposes of the Corporation.

Current Operations & Charitable History

The Corporation has a seven-member Board of Directors, with the Athens Chapter #24 President serving as an ex-officio Board member.   The primary officer duties are President, Secretary and Treasurer.  Committees may also be created and chairmen appointed.  The Board meets on a quarterly basis throughout the year, or as necessary to fulfill their duties. Board members are elected to staggered five-year terms by the membership of the Chapter during the Corporation’s Annual Meeting.
The Corporation is involved with the AHEPA chapter and local community in a variety of ways.  The Corporation donates tens of thousands annually to local charitable causes, as well as in the form of scholarships.  The amount of the scholarships given annually vary depending solely on the number of applications received. Scholarships are offer to the children and grandchildren of Chapter members who are at least three years in good standing.
Each year the Corporation donates to special causes that are discussed and collectively selected by the board. Previous recipients have included Shiners Children Hospital, The Jimmy Fund, The Philoxenia House, The Metropolis of Boston Camp, and St. Basil’s Academy, among many others. The Corporation’s commitment to the Boston community is steadfast and ongoing.
The corporation also hosts an annual Christmas dinner-dance, on the first weekend of December, celebrating both the Holiday as well as to publicly present scholarships to the deserving students.  All Boston Chapters of the AHEPA family are encouraged to eat, dance and have fun.
